A Collection of Haiku
HAIKU
A Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world. Haiku are short poems that use sensory language to capture a feeling or image. They are often inspired by an element of nature, a moment of beauty or a poignant experience. Haiku should always contain two juxtaposed ideas. The two parts are grammatically independent, and they are usually imagistically distinct as well.
1.The Solitary Bird:
“Flock has long flown south
A ripple in the still lake,
The lone bird flies off.”
2. A Careless Mistake:
“Herd of deer spied close
Twig snapped by careless paw,
The lion’s hunt yet on.”
3. True Identity:
“Snowflakes fall to the ground
Each one unlike the other,
All same in the snow.”
4. Autumn Leaves:
“Red, yellow, orange
Leaves fall together from trees,
Their green days long gone.”
5. Shining Sun:
“Thunder rumbles the sky
Lightning flashes to the ground,
The sun yet shines bright.”
6. Moonlight In The Dark:
“Dark, black, lonely night
Dull solitude everywhere,
7. Clouds:
“White fluffy cotton
Floating calmly in the sky,
Turn grey and shed rain.”
8. Pride:
“Feeling of supremacy
Top of ladder of success,
Pride will go before a fall.”
9. Failure:
“Heart-breaking failure
The Stepping Stone To Success,
Overcome to win.”
10. Death:
“Inevitable end
Dark blanket shrouding mankind,
Death is feared by all.”
11. Morning:
“Dawn of a new day
New beginnings, hopes for all,
Till night falls again.”
12. Time:
“Clock always ticking
Time and tide wait for no one,
Make the most of now.”
13. Earth:
“The unique planet
Life-supporting and generous,
See Earth’s sorry state.”
14. Choices:
"Yes no, right or wrong
These choices are everywhere,
Few easy to make.”
15. Hibernation:
“Squirrels hide their food
Bears hibernate in their den,
Prepare for winter.”
